Digitization of instruction materials in elementary and secondary education

Skopje, January 21th 2009

The Government will soon announce a tender for electronic curricula for six instruction subjects in elementary and secondary education - history, geography, math, physics, chemistry and biology - in four instruction languages - Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish and Serbian. The project's first stage envisages digitization of 30 instruction classes in elementary and 50 in secondary education in all six subjects.

Minister of Information Society Ivo Ivanovski organized Wednesday a business lunch with representative from chambers, NGOs and domestic ICT companies, also attended by Minister of Education and Science Pero Stojanovski and Education Development Bureau director Vesna Horvatovic, in order to inform them on the Government's plans for electronic curricula in the education sector.

"The objective is that Macedonian companies get ready in time and develop applications for the education sector", said Minister Ivanovski.

The goal it for all subjects to be digitized, including electronic materials adjusted to the pupil's age. According to the latest law changes, each instruction book is to be digitized and include a CD-ROM attached to the back cover.

Education Minister Stojanovski said that without modernization of the education process and contemporary training of teachers, all reforms would be futile.
