In 2010 and 2011 a growth in ICT use is expected

Skopje, December 24th 2009

- “In the past three years, Macedonia made a significant progress, but we expect that 2010 and 2011 will be the years when drastic increase of ICT use will be noted in Macedonia”, declared today the Minister of information society, Ivo Ivanovski, on the first Conference for information technology development in local self-government, organized by the Association of units for local self-government of the Republic of Macedonia.

Ivanovski added that two major projects were in progress, the whole chapter from e-Government and the latest project “E-documents for citizens”, which was already in progress.
By implementing the project “E-documents for citizens”, as he pointed, an institution can receive necessary documents from other institutions, in an electronic way.

Ivanovski expects that in 2010, the institutions’ analysis on central and local level should be finalized, as well as project proposals and action plans with financial construction.
According to the Minister, many municipalities succeeded and made progress in implementing electronic society. He also pointed out the need to work more intensively and to establish cooperation between municipalities.

Primarily, it is necessary to install an infrastructure with the purpose to simplify electronic services and make them available to citizens and business communities, said Ivanovski. He also added that regarding the e-Government chapter, Macedonia yet had not reached the wanted level, for which the Ministry intervened for.

Zoran Aleksov, President of the Commission for electronic municipalities in the Association of units for local self-government of the Republic of Macedonia, and the Major of municipality of Stip, noted that there were differences in the level of IT equipment and the quote of municipalities’ readiness in accepting new technologies.

According to him, the increased and equal ICT utilization in Macedonian municipalities will contribute in balancing the country’s development, as well in facilitating cooperation between municipalities, which are members of the Association of units for local self-government of the Republic of Macedonia.
